UAE selects F-16 Block 60 but EW suite still undecided
Article Abstract:
The move by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to pick the Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 60 fighters for its new multirole fighter program will be followed by the selection for an electronic warfare (EW), avionics and weapons systems for the aircraft. However, the service is facing difficulty in procuring an EW system for the F-16 that would share commonality with the EW system in UAE's incoming fleet of 30 Mirage 2000-9s and current fleet of 32 Mirage 2000s. The sensitivity of some data on the F-16 is considered as the factor that would most hamper the development of a single EW suite, particularly when certain reports claim that a team consisted of French Dassault Electronique and Thomson-CSF and Italian Elettronica SpA has been tasked to create the common EW system.

Antijam GPS system successfully tested
Article Abstract:
Boeing's McDonnell Douglas has performed Phase IV of the $6-million Air Force Antijam GPS Technology Test Flight (AGTTF) by dropping tactical weapons equipped with the Boeing solution. The AGTTF aims to develop a low-cost solution to the jamming susceptibility of the of GPS-aided internally guided tactical weapons systems such as the Joint Attack Defense Munition (JDAM) and the Conventional Air-Launched Cruise Missile. The solution to the vulnerability of GPS-aided weapons included a GPS/internal navigation system and an antijam GPS antenna, a Harris Corp. antijam electronics module, a Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense Systems mission computer and a Honeywell Inc. inertial-measurement unit.

UAE keeping options open as US government ponders fighter EW suite release issues
Article Abstract:
The United Arab Emirates is expected to select an EW self-protection suite based on a derivate of electronic support measures and the Litton ALR-100 radar warning receiver system. It will have an active subsystem using the ALQ-211 Suite of Integrated RF Countermeasures from ITT. However, the United Arab Emirates is asking that the RWR/ESM performance be improved through digital receiver sections and extensive instantaneous bandwidth. Elettronica of Italy and Thomson and Dassault Electronique of France have joined forces to conduct this work for the United Arab Emirates.
