US leads research to resolve data transfer within platforms in support of network-centric capability
Article Abstract:
The US Air Force has released an updated version of the MIl-STD-155 databus, named MIL-STD-1553B Notice 5, which is an advancement towards a network-centric warfare capability based on high-speed data exchange between platforms. This technology is the airborne equivalent of the domestic DSL broadband link, where the existing platform wiring is not disturbed and modification occurs only at the exchange, thus enabling simple and fast upgrade of the entire US fighter fleet.
