Uzbekistan heads towards violent regime change
Article Abstract:
World attention was focused on Uzbekistan in May 2005 when government forces killed hundreds of anti-government protestors in the volatile eastern province of Andijan and now the brutal regime of Islam Karimov, a staunch US ally, is heading for a violent action. The mounting unrest in Uzbekistan, which is spiraling irretrievably towards violent regime, is making it impossible for it from becoming a failed state.

Camorra factions vie for control of Naples drug market

The inter-factional rivalries that resulted from a struggle for control of Naples' lucrative drugs market led to a spate of Camorra-related killings in the city in 2004 and a subsequent government crackdown. The mafia war that took place in Naples in December 2004 has drawn wide attention to the Camorra's present status as the most active and violent of Italy's organized crime groups.

Drawing the line between piracy and maritime terrorism

Terrorist activities have evolved to encompass areas outside their traditional spheres, like hijacking, hostage taking and murders, to the point where the line between an act of terrorism and a conventional crime has blurred. The distinction between piracy, which is driven by financial gain, and maritime terrorism, which is politically motivated, are described.
