Viking submarine program to steer two-nation course
Article Abstract:
SwedenEs Defense Materiel Administration (DMA) and Danish Naval Materiel Command (NMC) agreed to fund the Viking submarine program through a further 18-month Project Definition Phase (PDP) that would conclude at the end of the year 2004. Even though Kockums of Norway and Odense Staalskibsvaerft established the Viking Submarine Corporation (VSC), the Norwegian government announced its withdrawal from the program as the move was approved by the parliament.

NATO's maritime forces current procurement programme aims to transform the Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN) to a smaller but more equipped program to play a major part in the multi-national and international operations. Hence, Norway is in the process of restructuring its armed forces to enable their effective participation in multinational operations on a global scale.
