The appreciation describes the life and career of Wallace M. Greene, Jr., 23d Commandant of the Marine Corps, who died on 8 March 2003 and was interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Even after leaving office and active duty on 31 December 1967, he remained active with the Marine Corps Historical Foundation and Marine Corps-related projects while contributing to the Marine Corps Gazette.

Remembrance: The 'Top of the Mark'

A retired Marine Corps officer fondly remembers the reopening of the San Francisco's Mark Hopkins Hotel's 'Top of the Mark'. The Marine Corps World War II (WWII) plaque is located at the Herb Caen bar that states many Marines embarking from San Francisco for Pacific Island campaigns declared, 'Meet me at the Top of the Mark'.
