New Army radios
Article Abstract:
The Army is slowly progressing towards a Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) and radios such as the AN/PRC-117F and the AN/PRX-150(C); members of the Harris Corporation Falcon II software-based digital communications family are being used in the interim period. The advantages of the AN/PRC-117F radio are narrow band and wide band capability, coverage of 30 to 512 MHz frequency offering embedded COMSEC (communications security), usage for SATCOM (satellite communications), availability of Fox Mike (FM) for inter-team communications and Electronic Counter-Counter-Measures (ECCM) capabilities while the AN/PRX-150(C) is a HF/VHF (High Frequency/ Very High Frequency) tactical radio system that operates in the 1.6 to 60 MHz frequency range and has embedded data communication capabilities.
