9/11 Commission Says It Needs More Time to Complete Report
Article Abstract:
The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States was expected to provide its report by May 27, but chairman Thomas Kean is seeking an extension until July. The White House, Speaker Dennis Hastert and Republican legislators are opposed to the deadline postponement because they believe the report's release will overlap the presidential campaigns. The Commission claims that it cannot finish its work by May because of refusal of Bush administration officials to commit to providing public testimony from the president, VP Cheney and Condoleeza Rice.
