Article Abstract:
Michael McHugh leaves the Australian court as High Court justice in October 2005, when he reaches the compulsory retirement age of 70 and argues that the continuing failure to appoint a woman as judge risks eroding people's support for the court. New South Wales Bar Association's study suggested that one of the reasons for a dearth of women serving as judges or senior barristers was that promising young male lawyers are mentored by their male seniors in ways that excluded women.
