AGF launches six global specialty mutual funds

AGF Management Ltd. (Toronto) has launched six new global specialty mutual funds yesterday to meet investors' demand for global funds with more narrow mandates. The new funds are the AGF MultiManager Class, AGF Aggressive Japan Class, AGF Global Technology Class, AGF Global Financial Services Class, AGF Global Health Sciences Class and AGF Global Resource Class. The AGF MultiManager Class will include the best ideas from its portfolio managers, including its outside advisers, such as Driehaus Capital Management Ltd., Brandes Investment Partners and AGF Fund Inc.'s Steve Rogers, Martin Hubbes and Cameron Scrivens. Other firms with a similar multimanager fund include C.I. Fund Management Inc. (Toronto) and Mackenzie Financial Corp. AGF currently has 18 fund in its special fund group that allows investors to switch among them while deferring capital gains when these funds are held outside a retirement plan.

AIM's star fund manager resigns

Toronto, Ont.-based C.I. Fund Management Inc. has lured away Derek Webb from rival AIM Fund Management Inc. AIM is owned by London, England-based Amvescap PLC, which is acquiring Toronto, Ont.-based Trimark Financial Corp. for $2.7 billion.
