AT&T revamps long-distance rate hike plan
Article Abstract:
AT and T Corp is revising its planned long-distance calling rates due to negative responses from regulators and consumers. The new rates are designed to benefit consumers who make few long-distance calls. The rates affect around 30 million customers who are not enrolled in calling plans. The firm is dropping the $3 minimum fee as well as another $1.51 charge but is raising per-minute rates by 13% to 56% depending on the time the call is made. AT and T is informing customers about the changes through massive direct mail and advertising campaigns.

AT&T shuns tactic of additional tracking shares
Article Abstract:
AT and T is planning not to offer separate tracking shares for any of its business divisions until such time that it has posted several quarters of solid results. The company offered tracking shares for AT and T Wireless in Apr 2000. Therefore, it was exppected to offer separate shares that would track the performance of its broadband and cable segment and its struggling consumer long-distance business. However, AT and T CEO C Michael Armstrong believes that offering the shares would smack of financial gimmickry.
