Aboriginal art under the hammer
Article Abstract:
Australian Aboriginal art has become so popular and lucrative that Sotheby's auction house has set up a separate department to locate paintings and other works from the Aborigines. Sales at the annual art auction have increased from $500,000 in 1995 to $6 mil in 1998. Auctioneers must guard against inauthentic art, but validated originals have sold for over $200,000.
