Revamped tool helps fliers breathe easier
Article Abstract:
A team of engineers from Torrance, CA-based Honeywell Engines and Systems who created a device to remove ozone from the cabin air of Boeing 777 aircraft needed to reengineer it to extend its life span. As a result, their efforts not only extended the life span of the device from one to more than three years, but also saved a $20-million business. Their efforts also created another $10 million in business since the device is now used on other types of aircraft. Their achievement has also transformed the company into a model for problem resolution in the eyes of aircraft maker Boeing Co.
