Alliance Data Systems seals deal with Loyalty Group

Loyalty Group, a database services provider headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, has been acquired by Alliance Data Systems, a rival company based in Dallas, TX, for an undisclosed amount. The purchase will allow Alliance Data Systems to capitalize on Loyalty's extensive background in database marketing and enhance its presence in the Canadian database market, according to Beth Kuzela, a spokesperson for Alliance. Loyalty Group, which has gained recognition for its Air Miles reward program, hopes that the deal will allow it to gain access to Alliance's vast consumer data base and improve its financial position.

Shoppers Drug buys 16 stores

Shoppers Drug Mart Ltd., a drug store chain based in Toronto, Ontario, has acquired 16 specialty stores from MDS Inc., also based in Toronto, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition will enable Shoppers Drug, which announced that it will merge its home care division with MDS' Doncaster chain of stores, to expand its market of home health care products. MDS, however, says retailing of specialty products such as prosthetics devices and wheelchair equipment no longer fit in its core business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Consortium to boost spending on Highway 407
Article Abstract:
The Ontario government will sell the world's first electronic toll highway, Highway 407, to a Quebec-led consortium for C$3.1 billion. The group, which is composed of SBC-Lavalin Group Inc, the Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec and Grupo Ferrovial of Spain, will have a 99-year lease on the highway but will not own the land. The winning bidder also promised to invest another C$900 million to expand the highway.
