Analysts expect Big Three auto sales to drop
Article Abstract:
Wall Street analysts have predicted that the sales of the Big Three automobile firms will decline further while the market share of imported vehicles will rise. The sales decline for Feb 2001 will be 16.5% for General Motors, 15% for Ford and 21% for Chrysler. The sales drop of the Big Three automakers was attributed to lower marketing expenditures and promotions, the negative publicity generated by American brands and demographic changes which indicate that younger and wealthier car buyers favor imported cars.

BMW shuns 'Made in USA' code
Article Abstract:
The change made by BMW on its vehicle identification numbers (VINs) on its vehicles made in the US could result in confusion among buyers, law enforcement and insurance fraud investigations. BMW's Z3 sports cars and X5 sport-utility wagons have been designated by the firm with the Germany code 'W'at the beginning of their VINs, instead of the '4' code for its US factory. BMW claims that the change was in compliance with regulations and that the NHTSA approved the change in its VINs code, a claim the NHTSA disputes.
