Auto trade surplus soars
Article Abstract:
Canada's automobile trade surplus with the US reached C$14.8 billion in the 1st half 1998, up by 100% from C$7.4 billion in the 1st half 1997. On the other hand, the trade deficit with Japan increased from $2.24 billion to C$2.47 billion while the value of finished vehicles exported to Japan more than doubled to C$79 million in the 1st half 1998 compared to the corresponding period in 1998.

Alberta warns Ottawa on taxes
Article Abstract:
Ottawa's proposal to remove the tax break for oil sands projects has been criticized by Alberta finance minister Lyle Oberg. The cancelling of tax breaks could hamper development in oil sands and thus hit Alberta's economy.
