Conservative Republicans Push For Slowdown in U.S. Spending
Article Abstract:
House Republicans are working on a plan to convince Pres. Bush that stricter spending limits are needed to reduce the federal budget deficit. Bush committed to reducing the deficit by 50% in five years, but 40 representatives seek a more substantial cutback in government spending. A Pew Research Center poll showed that 51% of respondents believe the federal deficit is a top priority, a 40% increase from the 2003 poll.

Big Tax Plans, Big Tax Risks
Article Abstract:
George W. Bush wants to reform the tax system, but there is no indication of how he plans to do it. Either a national sales tax or a flat tax on income, would have economic and political repercussions, and completely change the present system of progressive income tax.
