BUSH WILL OFFER MAJOR INITIATIVE TO EXPLORE SPACE
Article Abstract:
Pres. Bush is planning a speech next week to announce his administration's goal to create a base on the moon and aim for a human landing on Mars. This would be his second major policy initiative following his proposal to revamp immigration laws for illegal immigrants and workers. It would help enhance an image of a president with serious objectives that exceed his accomplishments in fighting terrorism and reducing taxes. The committee investigating the Columbia space shuttle accident issued a report stating that NASA suffered from effective long-term planning. Bush's proposal would help rectify that situation.
