Article Abstract:
Women have been successful in attaining equality, materially and socially, with men. However, despite such success, women has seemingly failed to break from the bonds imposed by culture regarding beauty. Such rigid adherence to the beauty myth is the most powerful barrier to the advancement of women. It has so controlled women that the incidence of eating disorders are on the increase, destroying more women physically and psychologically. Unless women break from such bond then all women will fail to sustain the progress they have made in creating their niche in society.

Article Abstract:
The status of women insociety and the social ills affecting her are not induced by the cultural edictof beauty alone but caused by a variety of factors. Ascribing the women's current dilemma to such factor alone is a mere simplification. The choice to adhere to such diet fads is a product of free will which women have in abundance. Such adherence to the beauty myth as explained by Naomi Wolf is an extremist point of view which lacks balance, moderation and judiciousness.
