Bank error in your favour: Collect $17-million

The Bank of Nova Scotia has accidentally deposited $17.1 million in one of its customers banking accounts. The Toronto physician who was the recipient of the bank error also received a tax form stating that he had earned $753.42 in taxable income for the mistaken deposit.

RBC posts record year-end profit

Montreal, Que.-based Royal Bank of Canada has reported a profit of $2.41 billion for 2001. Royal Bank of Canada, which benefitted from strong overall growth in the retail banking sector, also reported profits of $656 million for the year compared to $595 million in 2000.

Scotiabank posts record profit for quarter, year
Article Abstract:
Bank of Nova Scotia reported a profit of $566 million for the quarter ended Oct. 31, 2001, up from $497 million the year before. Profit for the year 2001 was up to $2.17 billion from $1.93 billion a year earlier.
