iller breaks out plastic beer bottles

Miller Brewing Co is slated to launch the first plastic beer bottles to the market, making Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft and Icehouse available in 16-oz and 20-oz platic bottles. The company has been testing plastic beer bottles at stadiums, arenas and events. Plastic bottles offer benefits since they are unbreakable, resealable and can keep beer cold at a longer time. The plastic containers are also lighter to transport and recyclable.

Breweries are introducing new products in innovative packaging in an effort to lure young consumers. Beer makers, which have been slow in embracing innovation because of tight regulation and family tradition, are discovering new packaging such as plastics and new formulations such as light beer. Anheuser-Busch, for instance, will unveil all-new labels and packaging for the top-selling brand in the US, Budweiser.

Beermakers have millennium plans in the can

Leading beermakers in the US are introducing new packages and other changes on their labels in an effort to capitalize on the coming millennium. Anheuser-Busch will modify the labels on the 12-ounce cans and bottles of its Budweiser brand and will introduce a 1.37-liter beer in a magnum bottle. Miller Brewing will repackaged its Miller Lite brand and will also put on sale gift packs of commemorative pilners glasses.
