Boeing rips a page out of Airbus' book: Goal: Cut costs, assembly time
Article Abstract:
Boeing will modify at least three 747-400 jumbo jets to air-ship the large parts, imitating Airbus use of a bulked up A300-600 jet to shuttle airplane sections between factories in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy in 2003. Boeing's goal is to pare costs and reduce assembly time and by using Japanese-style just-in-time inventory techniques, it wants to roll a new 200- to 250-seat 7E7 every three days, instead of every 12 to 17 days as it does with its other models.

Gates: XP will deliver smarter computer
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp is planning to open a new Windows upgrade, called Windows XP. Windows XP is dubbed as the most significant Windows release in half a decade but Wall street is waiting to see whether customer acceptance matches pre-release hype. XP stands for experience, as in total computer experience. With it, Microsoft will unify the code around the corporate standard, which should make the home version considerably more reliable.
