Bombardier slashes rail unit; cuts 6,600 staff, shuts plants

Paul Tellier the owner of Bombardier Inc. on March, 2004 unveiled a disappointing financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended on 31 January 2004, calling for the layoff of one-fifth of the unit's work force and the closing of seven plants in Europe. Paul Tellier stated that the anticipated cuts would cost the passenger rail car and jet making giant $777-million over three years which result in annual savings of $600-million.
