CIBC profit soars 41% in quarter

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) posted a rise of 41% in profits for the second quarter ending April 30, 2003. The bank, which was helped by cost-cutting and reduced loan-loss provisions, posted 320 million Canadian dollars in quarterly profits.

HSBC first-quarter profit dips slightly despite improved lending
