Danier Leather profit up 142%

Danier Leather Inc.'s profit for fiscal 1998 ended Jun. 27, 1998, rose 142% to C$4.4 million or 61 cents per share, from C$1.8 million or 25 cents per share the company achieved in fiscal 1997. The company posted C$88.7 million in sales for fiscal 1998 ended Jun. 27, 1998, up from C$69.7 million in sales in fiscal 1997. However, Danier Leather posted C$500,000 in losses on sales of C$15.8 million for the fourth quarter of 1998. In early June 1998, the company lowered its profit forecasts from C$400,000 in losses to C$1.2 million in losses.

Dundee Realty plans selloff of residential and U.S. properties

Dundee Realty Corp. has announced it is planing to sell off Canlight, its property management division, and all of its residential and US properties as part of major restructuring effort. The reorganization, which is designed to allow Dundee Realty to focus more on its Canadian commercial real estate business, is expected to cut the firm workforce from 400 people to 350. Canlight will be sold to the employees of the property management unit. Dundee said it expects to generate proceeds of around C$ 200 million from the sale of its assets.
