CPL to bid on nursing home beds

CPL Long Term Care Real Estate Investment Trust has announced that it has made an offer to the Ontario, Canada, government concerning the supply of 6,700 nursing home beds for the province. The company also stated that it making assessments about the possibility of bidding for some of the work. COO William Dillane, which made the statements at the company's shareholder meeting, pointed out that the bidding presents an opportunity to the company in terms of service expansion. Dillane also added that it might also make offers for new construction opportunities although it will primarily focus on expanding in areas where it has nursing homes.

Canadian coal producers caught in trade dispute

Coal producers in Canada will receive fewer orders from Japan as a result of a major steel importation dispute between the US and Japan. Canadian coal companies said that Japanese steelmakers will reduce coal demand by 30% due to the economic slowdown and a lower domestic demand. Japanese steel companies were also accused of dumping their products in the US at prices below production costs, thus give US firms difficulty in competing.

Royal Host launches hostile takeover bid for CHIP
Article Abstract:
Royal Host REIT is bidding to become Canada's biggest hotel real estate investment trust by launching a hostile C$339 million takeover offer for Canadian Hotel Income Properties REIT. The offer will swap 1.19 Royal Host units for every CHIP unit outstanding. Royal Host's hotel portfolio consists of 36 properties with 4,400 rooms, while CHIP owns 36 hotels with 8,000 rooms.
