CPR plans to lay off more than 1,000 workers

Canadian Pacific Railway Co. (CPR) will temporarily lay off more than 1,000 workers to cut costs. The company has to make the job cuts due to the decline in grain and coal shipments, which fell by 24% and 11%, respectively. The company has recently eliminated 65 administrative jobs, and will lay off another 900 unionized workers for an extended perid. The job cuts will save CPR around C$60 million annually.
