CanWest leaps ahead of CTV
Article Abstract:
CanWest Global Communications Corp. overtakes rival CTV as it announced its purchase of 11 television stations from WIC Western International Communications Ltd. for C$950 million. The acquisition deal will include four stations in Alberta, completing its coverage from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. CanWest will become the largest privately-owned broadcaster in Canada according to revenue. CanWest will divide the WIC assets with Shaw Communications Inc., which will purchase WIC's 12 radio stations, four specialty cable TV stations and interest in Canadian Satellite Communications Inc.
