Canada bucks slowdown with 30,000 new jobs in March

Industry analysts said that the Canadian economy would experience more problems despite the creation of an additional 30,000 jobs in March 2001. Statistics Canada reported that the country's economy has been hurt by a weak manufacturing sector and a 7% unemployment rate in March 2001.

Ontario and Nfld. lead economic growth

A Statscan report on Canada's economy has indicated that the provinces of Newfoundland and Ontario were the leading regions for 1999 economic growth. Other Canadian provinces have been hurt by the continuing Asian economic crisis.
