State and federal governments in the US have assumed responsibility for elder-care financing, and though the worries of long-term care (LTC) have not disappeared, concern has gradually shifted from fire and safety code violations by nursing homes to improving quality of care. The Congress and state governments have introduced several regulations such as minimum national standards for staffing and training in nursing homes, introduction of assisted-living and home-based care.
