Consumer and advocate groups have provided various different ways to help consumers protect their personal data. Citizens should lookout for pretexting, should not use the Social Security number (SSN) or birth date as a password and should use a prepaid disposable cell phone and other 'opt-out' tools to protect the information.

Article Abstract:
The dangers posed by massive databases, which are filled with information used by businesses and government, are not known to the masses on a large scale. However, the US has no privacy law, unlike other industrial nations, to protect the data due of the limitations present in the Privacy Act.
