Confident Netscape looks beyond Microsoft trial
Article Abstract:
Netscape Communications Corp., a Mountain View, CA-based software firm, will continue to build and expand its business regardless of the outcome of rival Microsoft Corp.'s antitrust trial. US Department of Justice's suit against Microsoft is a historic case to keep track on, but Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen considers the trial as no longer relevant to his company's business. Netscape, which created the popular Navigator browsing software, has established a two-pronged on-line strategy that would put the company on top of the fast-growing electronic commerce business. Netscape will sell software for businesses and consumers who are buying online, and use its Netcenter Web site to generate traffic and advertising revenue.

EDS acquisition of SHL stirs talk about unit's future
Article Abstract:
Electronic Data Systems Corp (EDS) of Plano, TX, will acquire the consulting and systems integration company SHL Systemhouse Inc of Ottawa, Ontario, for $1.65 billion. The acquisition is part of EDS' $17-billion deal with MCI Worldcom Inc. However, EDS may sell SHL's $400-million corporate computer reseller business in Canadan because it may not want to stay in the industry where companies earn a mere 1%-5% as sales agents for manufacturers.
