Consumer debt: Risk or race?
Article Abstract:
New York's attorney general has accused Countrywide Financial Corp., the largest mortgage lender in the U.S. that the company is charging Hispanic and African-American borrowers higher mortgage rates than whites with similar credit histories. With the proliferation of novel mortgage products and a better accounting for credit risk, mortgage lending to minorities has increased by 159 percent to Hispanic and 93 percent to African-American borrowers while lending to whites grew by just 29 percent.

Consumer debt: Student debt soars
