Corporate America asks: Is Spitzer out of control?

Eliot Spitzer, the New York State Attorney-General has targeted America's largest insurance companies and accused them of bid rigging, after taking on Wall Street investment bankers, the mutual fund industry and large pharmaceutical companies with similar grounds. Certain consumer advocates and some business professors are appreciating his work while others are accusing him of routinely over-stepping his bounds as the state's top law enforcement officer.

Corporate America is undergoing mergers and acquisitions since the collapse of Internet bubble. The US companies are flush with cash and optimistic about growth, and have gone on a spending spree announcing deals worth $83-billionin the mid of December 2004 alone.
