Canadian firms reaped earnings amounting to just under $100 billion Canadian in FY 1995, but this strong profitability has not resulted in more jobs for Canadians. Instead, unemployment has risen to nearly 10%. Corporations can expect to receive a good deal of criticism for this phenomenon.

The venture capital boom: there has probably never been a better time in Canada to be an entrepreneur with a good idea
Article Abstract:
The amount of venture capital being invested in growth-orientated Canadian firms has risen from $3.3 billion in 1992, to around $6 billion. Much of this growth has been fueled by tax incentives and labor-sponsored venture capital funds. Banks have also increased their lending.

Demand from foreign investors for Canadian corporate bonds shows that overseas investors more than domestic observers feel the prospects for Canada's economy is bright. Some foreign economists believe the outlook for Canada may be even better than for the US.
