Crown Cork & Seal to slash workforce
Article Abstract:
Crown Cork and Seal, a Philadelphia, PA-based product packager, recently announced that it will cut 7% of its workforce, specifically 2,700 workers, in an effort to save $64 million annually. The company cited the global currency crisis as well the trading pattern problems in its West Coast food business as the factors to the downsizing. Crown Cork & Seal, however, failed to state where the layoffs will occur among its 247 plants in 49 countries. For the third quarter, the firm stated that its earnings will amount to 80 cents to 82 cents a diluted share, below analysts' expections of $1.05 a diluted share.
