CueCat scanner sweeps readers to Net
Article Abstract:
Dallas, TX-based Digital Convergence has developed a handheld scanner called the CueCat, which attaches to personal computers like a mouse. It reads bar codes in newspapers or magazines, then automatically brings up specific Internet World Wide Web sites on the computer screen. With the bar codes, the Cat allows publications to direct readers viewing printed stories to the publications' Web sites or a related site for more information on the subject. In advertisements, the code can be used to send interested readers to a Web site to view more data on the products.

Merged media titans' competitors gird for expected battle
Article Abstract:
The merger of Time Warner Inc with America Online Inc (AOL) has posed an urgent challenge to their competitors who must figure out strategies in their battle against the combined giants. Competitors seek plans on how to keep growing against a larger rival and with seemingly unmatchable ability to cross-market itself in traditional and new media. While publishers, such as Hachette Filipacchi, have sought other allies in addition to AOL, others, such as Vivendi, opt to get bigger by merging with other companies.
