HP and Compaq argued that their merger would create new efficiencies in computer production and allow the combined company to pursue markets in the services industry in addition to hardware. Together, HP and Compaq will be a dominant player in the PC, server, printer and information technology services industries. HP CEO Carly Fiorina said she expects to see $2.5 billion in savings from the merger by eliminating redundancies in the two companies.
