Delta rekindles interest in Continental
Article Abstract:
Delta Air Lines is again thinking of acquiring Continental Airlines. The renewed interest in Continental was spurred by the news that American Airlines is finalizing its bid to buy Trans World Airlines and a separate deal to purchase 20% of the jets, landing slots, gates and other assets of US Airways. Another competitor, United Airlines would purchase most of the remaining assets of US Airways. The deals would leave Delta, which is the third-largest ariline, far behind in the consolidation race.

Icahn fights TWA buyout in court
Article Abstract:
Carl Icahn is against American Airlines' acquisition of Trans World Airlines. Icahn, one of TWA's biggest debtors and has a contract to buy discounted TWA tickets, is asking the Delaware bankruptcy court to grant him, and not American, the right to offer 'debtor-in-possession' financing to TWA. The scheme would allow Icahn to get priority over other creditors for repayment. TWA is facing reorganization after filing for bankruptcy protection on Jan 10, 2001.
