Disney hopes frequent-buyer plan helps brand

Walt Disney is launching a frequent-customer program designed to foster brand loyalty among its best customers. While the company offers a similar program for its theme parks, this will be first time that the company is offering such a program across the Disney brand. The program is being launched amidst concerns over two consecutive years of earnings decline.

Walt Disney's senior management is being poached by Internet start-ups. The latest defector is Patricia Fili-Krushel, who left her position as president of ABC TV to join health-oriented Internet company Healtheon/WebMD. Since 1997, the company saw the chiefs of its Internet operations, cable business and movie studio resign to join or start Internet start-ups.

Disney hopes redesign maketh the mouse

Walt Disney plans to redesign its apparel which targets young adults as well as a television and print advertising campaign scheduled for launching in spring 2000 to revitalize sluggish consumer product sales. Cartoon characters will be made more subtle on many of young adult apparel to make them more attractive to older customers. The new line will appear in Disney stores sometime in mid-summer 2000. The TV and print ad campaign will sport the theme 'Why we love the mouse.'
