Mechanic Wayne Cheverie testified against the management of the Westray coal mine, the site of a fatal explosion on May 9, 1992 that killed 26. Cheverie spoke of several unsafe practices including the tampering with a methane monitor to allow mining machinery to operate at higher-than allowed methane levels.
