Mariza, a fado singer and songwriter rejected fado as a teenager but respected the traditions of fado, as it was a traditional music of Portugal's taverns. Later she started singing in a fado house and earned reputations by her works that include three best-selling albums, a world-crossing tour schedule, and a duet with Sting for the Athens Olympic Games soundtrack and a recent sell-out performance at Carnegie Hall.
