Draft debates: Draft rumors still "alive and well"
Article Abstract:
Internet postings, chain e-mails and chat room exchanges during 2004's Presidential campaign sparked speculation that the government was planning to reinstate the draft and the cyber rumors continue unabated even in 2005. Democratic candidates and their supporters, who circulated the idea both in cyberspace and on college campuses that US President George W. Bush was preparing to bring back conscription if he was re-elected, spread many of the rumors.
