E-shopping trickles into mainstream

Electronic-commerce in Canada trails the United States by 12 to 18 months, according to an extensive study by Toronto, Canada-based JC Williams Group. On a percentage basis, Canadian women shop less on the Internet compared to their American counterparts. Canadians also buy products and services from a limited group of retailers. Online sales in Canada are expected to increase to just C$1.14 billion in 1999 from C$690 million in 1998 and C$270 million in 1997.

MP3 shares dive 40% on court ruling

Share value of Los Angeles, Calif.-based MP3.com Inc.'s stock has fallen by 40% following the ruling of a federal judge against the online music distribution company. MP3.com, which is being sued for copyright infringement by the Recording Industry Association of America, allows online consumers to swap music files.
