Emergency rooms throughout Canada are overcrowded at the beginning of 2000. An increase in flu outbreaks, a shortage of nurses, a shortage of doctors and clinics during the holidays and on weekends and a shortage of long-term care beds have caused these difficulties in the $86 billion Canadian healthcare system.

Cancer centre gives patients help, hope

Toronto, Ont.-based Wellspring, which is a support services facility for cander patients and their families, will open a second location. Wellspring, which was founded in 1992 by a charitable organization, has plans to expand throughout Canada due to a growing demand for its counseling services.
