The American constitution stipulates that a presidential candidate must be minimum 35 years old, a U.S. citizen residing in the U.S. for at least 14 years. All the Presidents of America, so far, were males and white but in the ensuing elections due in 2008, Americans might not hesitate voting for a woman or an African-American candidate for a president.

Public financing for presidential campaigns began in 1976 however public financing could not meet the actual campaign costs. The front-loading of primaries began in 1988 and the demands of the money primaries increased.
