Fenders fall off Volvo's image in Nova Scotia
Article Abstract:
Volvo Canada Ltd., once considered as one of the best employers in Nova Scotia, has decided to shut down its plant in Halifax, Nova Scotia, leaving over 200 people jobless. The move triggered disagreement between the company and the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union after the company rejected the union's proposal regarding the way the plant would be closed down. Instead, the company insisted on its offer, which calls for its employees to receive up to $35,000 in cash severance payment based on two week's pay per year of service but without retirement allowances.
