File to fax on the road
Article Abstract:
The GoFAX communications software allows an ordinary modem to send text or graphics files from a microcomputer over telephone lines to a fax machine. To install the program on a hard disk, put the floppy into a drive, type 'install,' and answer the prompted questions. GoFAX will dial AT&T's EasyLink and set up an account, and the software will send files to EasyLink via a toll-free number, which passes files to the fax machine. Files must be sent in ASCII text. The program includes a simple word processing program. GoFAX can send graphic files, but not graphics and text in one transmission. It cannot find the modem if a mouse is plugged into the microcomputer serial port. GoFAX is a product of Pierce Communications and is published by Ibis Software. It needs MS-DOS 3.0 or higher, 512Kbytes memory and a Hayes-compatible modem operating at 1,200 or 2,400 baud. Suggested retail price is $69.95.

Keyboard kickoff for football season
Article Abstract:
Two low-cost programs for football enthusiasts are discussed. Hi Tech Expressions's $19.95 N.F.L. Print Pro prints signs, posters, cards, banners and other paraphernalia with the logo or helmet of any of the 28 NFL teams. The program has a total of 100 graphic images on two 5.25-inch disks, in addition to seven typefaces, 40 borders and 21 type styles. N.F.L. Print Pro works with various dot-matrix and laser printers. It requires at least 640Kbytes of internal memory, a graphics adapter, a hard drive and one floppy drive. ALC Software's Pro Football Picks is shareware written in QuickBasic, that includes statistics from the 1990 and 1991 NFL season. The program can keep track of a team's performance as well as suggest plausible bets. It requires DOS 2.1 or later, 256Kbytes of memory and either floppy or hard drives. For $28, a user can order a registered copy.

A shell that really shields you
Article Abstract:
Easysoft's $99 DOS Partner is a disk-management shell program that will run on an IBM-compatible microcomputer running DOS 2.0 or higher. DOS Partner is different from many shell programs in that it does not require the user to know any DOS syntax, but it can still manage hard disks nicely. DOS Partner has four parts, one for working with applications, one for managing files on a hard disk, one for managing the disk itself and another that allows the user to customize DOS Partner. DOS Partner will identify and create a menu of the applications on a given disk, allowing easy menu driven access of up to 24 applications per disk. Partner also allows users to manipulate files on a disk and includes a utility for naming and erasing files and disks.
