Ford shutting lincoln-mercury franchises

Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd. is closing down ts Lincoln-Mercury franchises beginning the fall of 1999. The company said the move includes halting the sale of the Mercury Mystique and Sable and the Ford Contour starting this fall. All its 577 dealerships in Canada will market cars under the Ford brand. The company stated that it is moving to one dealership network and custom franchises to simplify the marketing of its vehicles to customers.
