GM lease deals pump up car sales
Article Abstract:
Rising vehicle sales are being helped by an incentive program from General Motors (GM) that allow consumers to get out current GM leases early if they buy or lease a new GM product. The automaker has told Wall Street analysts that more than 40,000 lease holders have taken advantage of the deal by the end of Jun 2001. Without GM's program monthly sales would have leveled of at 16.4 million units but June sales have reached 17 million units. It remains to be seen if GM would spend more money to book sales that would have come later anyway.
