GM faces recall of popular SUVs
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp could face a recall of almost 280,000 1999 Chevrolet Tahoes and GMC Yukons as federal auto safety officials are expected to reject a request from the company to exempt the models from a recall. The recall stemmed from the failure of the sport utility vehicles to pass government test on air bags. The recall would only cover models manufactured before May 4, 1999, as well as the 1999 Yukon Denali and Cadillac Escalade.

GM to recall '99 Tahoes, Yukons
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp (GM) will recall about 280,000 of its GMC Yukons and Chevrolet Tahoes built prior to May 4, 1999. The recall is being done in order to avoid a continued review of the vehicle's safety record after it failed an air bag test in Feb 1999. GM, which helped develop the test it failed, had initially called the failure inconsequential. The company, whose stand was that the failure will not occur in actual circumstances, nevertheless, began making changes to the air bag design after May 4, 1999.

Easier child seats
Article Abstract:
Federal authorities have decided to make universal standards mandatory on all types of child seats to fit the 2001 model year of the automobiles which they will eventually be used in. These new regulations are supposed to help parents to guarantee the safety of their children since previous child seat models were sometimes difficult to install. The new child seat models can also be installed in older car models. At the same time, new cars will have retractors in seat belts that are mandatory in conventional child seats.
